This a length of track with real steam engines and DMUs on display and ready
to ride on. There are two renovated stations at Blunsdon and Hayes Knoll and
another one planned at Moulden Hill. Visit the site for details of "Steam Days"
and other activities there.
This was an enterprising move by Samuel Champerdown Sadler to capitalise on
the success of nearby Spas such as Bath, Warwick, Cheltenham, Droitwich ...
If you continue down Stoke Common Lane past the Spa you will arrive at these
wildflower meadows at the end of the track. They lie within the boundaries of
both the ancient forest of Braydon and the new Great Western Community Forest.
This large area of grassland is farmed with the minimal application of fertiliser
and pesticides to encourage wildlife such as Curlews and Hairstreak butterflies.
Or of course you could just go for a walk -
the land has been in use for a few thousand years - you can find footpaths to
Purton, Cricklade, Blunsdon, Minety or Moulden Hill on the outskirts of Swindon
